Artistically I find myself in a weird place. I consider myself an illustrator first and a digital artist second. Digitally, my primary medium would be imaging and character design using Photoshop. By imaging, I mean "pin ups" of characters. An overall image of a character in a environment or some sort of setting that relates to the character in some way, shape or form. Before a pin up of a character is made however I like to design my characters first. This doesn't always require a spread sheet. Usually a sketch or a series of sketches depicting various poses is my usual process before the layout of a pinup. Iv recently started working on comic cell sheets as well.
I believe I do have a style, but I wouldn't know what to call it. I take inspiration from various types of art and I like to encompass different techniques into my drawing. I look at American comics, Japanese manga and anime and different cartoons, animations and even 3d. I believe my art style should be moldable to fit my current needs and not stay static. As stated above I mostly work with characters and they usually come from just doodling various things with a small idea or concept in my mind. This usually helps me create a story from my character. I do create characters for my stories, but this comes after the initial first character is created. One of the most distinct things about my art is that I utilize the black line. I believe you can tell a lot about a character with just one stroke.
I believe that my art has a strong connection to comics in all there varieties. I draw a lot of my inspiration from comics and I feel that my art reflects that. Comics utilize still images to tell a story and display emotion through look and feel. I try and to much of the same with my work whether it be consecutive drawings or a singular pinup. My art reflects the inspiration and techniques I've acquired from reading and studying various comic types.
nice description of your progress. your challenge really is to define your style by the end of the semester!
