BFA Contract

For my BFA exhibit, I will be working on three large digital images/paintings and two smaller images/paintings. The three larger images will be combined into a "set" to form a triptych story and the two smaller images will be placed around the top and bottom of the triptych to from one cohesive piece.

The concept behind my project is of violence derived from religion. Throughout human kinds history their have been wars and terrible events that have derived from religious governing bodies and or religious factions disagreeing and feuding with one another. My work depicts the faceless regime of religious zealotry that has come and gone in waves throughout history like the cyclical tide on the beach. Always repeating in human history, religion has been used to bring "righteousness" to actions of war and terror. My project focuses on two factions warring with one another over their divine entity. On the left is the image of the faceless enforcers of divine right, bringing terror and war with them upon their holy path of destructive religious oppression. On the right is the opposing force which defies the oppression from the left. Both forces clash towards the center of the piece which depicts the divine entity of there beliefs. Two forces are meant to be different, and this being a single entity. Its to  represent the ambiguity of religion and the cyclical nature of the religious conflict.

The aesthetic and style ill be using for my project is that of a comic. What I mean by that is my use of the black line and outline to most of my figures and scenery. With my project I'm visually telling a story to my viewer. The most popular way to visually tell a story in a modern setting is by a comic book. Thus my art style reflecting this is meant to enforce they story aspect of my project. I'm taking a historical topic and presenting it in a modern style to a modern audience in a modern setting.

The final format of my project will be printed images on paper and framed in a triptych setting. The center image will be 18x24'' and the two side images will be 36x24". The images on the top and bottom wil1 be approximately 8x5"(subject to change). Within the gallery if applicable, ill be utilizing a corner space with the center image being placed within the corner of the two walls as to be the center focus of the triptych. The two side images will be placed upon the opposing sides of the center image so the contents of each image appear to be focusing towards the center image (which is intended). The two smaller images shall be placed above and below the center image within the corner space. This set up is designed to draw the viewers attention to the center of the triptych while viewing the two side images leading towards the focal point.
